The enemy that everyone falls for.












Kids love it, adults love it.  Heck, I'd marry it if it had a face.  SUGAR.


My mom was recently diagnosed with advanced stage 4 colon cancer at 58 years old.  Scary stuff. I took this as a wake-up call, not only for her but for myself as well.  I re-examined exactly what I put in my mouth, pumped up the physical activity and the hardest part: getting the rest of the gang to follow (believe me, no one was pleased when I dumped the white stuff and cooked up brown rice or quinoa every single day!).  


One of my own personal struggles was minimizing sugar. I love me a nice sweet treat at the end of the day but really, who are we kidding?  At this point, we all know that sugar does more harm than good.  Cancer thrives on sugar; check out this site Cancer loves Sugar. My good friend Jerrick (check out his blog Kinetic Family), also suggests watching "Sugar: The Bitter Truth". Excess sugar increases waistlines, causes obesity, which can potentially lead to a vast of other diseases, including cardiovascular disease.


So here's my treatment plan for decreasing my sugar intake, potentially leading to complete elimination:  


  1. Fresh fruit only.  I've been trying to satisfy my sugar cravings with fruit.
  2. Balance my pH with lemons and warm water in AM.  Not sure what the correlation is, but I find this really helps curb my sugar cravings for the rest of the day. If anyone knows the reasoning behind this, please let me know.
  3. Fresh organic green juice every AM.  Organic kale, broccoli stalks, cucumber, celery, romaine (thank you Ms. Kris Carr!).  I do not juice fruit since juicing concentrates the sugar further and the point of this is to curb the cravings.  
  4. Close the kitchen after dinner.  I pull out a good book, spend time with J (my hubby) or play with the iPhone until bedtime.  NO NIBBLING cuz that always leads to sugar temptation.

So that's it.  We'll see how it goes......
